Is an "unplanned discharge" record excluded from RPG cost weight calculations in Ontario?
Rehabilitation Cost weights are applied at the patient level, and as such, you wouldn't exclude specific clients from its calculation; each episode in the NRS would normally have a cost weight applied to it. There are, however, a few cases where a cost weight can't be calculated for a client episode. For example, clients with an admission class of '4' ((un)planned discharge) do not always have complete FIM® admission assessments. Without a complete FIM® admission assessment (or if either birthdate or RCG is missing) an RPG cannot be assigned, which means a cost weight cannot then be calculated and applied to the client episode. In these cases, the clients with (un)planned discharges would not have a cost weight associated with them.
